Katherine Autin
Parkinson's Disease Expert, Patient Advocate, Caregiver Coach, Author, Trainer & Speaker
Katherine has been a passionate advocate for individuals with Parkinson’s disease and their families since 2004 when her husband was diagnosed with Parkinson's disease. As a nationally recognized Board Certified Patient Advocate (BCPA) and experienced educator, trainer, and speaker, Katherine has dedicated her career to empowering the Parkinson’s community. Her work focuses on patient advocacy, caregiver education, and developing strategies to improve quality of life and healthcare outcomes for those affected by this complex disease. She is known as the "Parkinson's Lady".
It has been her dream to launch and grow a community for caregivers where the caregivers can find peace and empowerment with others in a similar journey.
We will help in developing short- and long-term plans with you and your family after assessing your status in your disease journey. We can guide you to consider when the right time for a lift chair, a wheelchair, and optional living situations might be.
We will guide you in how to access and benefit from healthcare and other helpful resources available to people with Parkinson's and their family caregivers, including exercise programs for Parkinson's.
We will educate your family about your symptoms and how they can help and support you. It's not their fault. When family doesn't understand what you are experiencing, they don't know how to help and support you.
Understanding There are Myths, Misconceptions, Side effects, and More
We will provide a full overview of possible symptoms that Parkinson's disease causes and look at how to track medication side effects. In this process, you will get better clarity about some of the myths and misconceptions that folks misunderstand about this disease.

Have you ever felt overwhelmed and scared as a caregiver? When my husband was diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease in 2004, I felt lost—unsure of what to do or where to turn. Every doctor’s appointment and decision felt like a mountain to climb.
If you know that feeling, you’re not alone. Caregiving is one of the most important roles you’ll ever take on, yet no one teaches us how to do it effectively. Most of us learn on the job, leading to mistakes that can affect both you and the person you’re caring for.
That’s why I created
Patient Advocate Training for Caregivers
—to share the skills, tools, and strategies I’ve learned over the years. This 6-month online training will give you the confidence to navigate the complexities of caregiving and healthcare advocacy.
When my husband was diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease in 2004, neither one of us knew all that much about it. Our limited exposure to this insidious illness included small snippets of information overheard from interviews by Michael J. Fox and Muhammad Ali or picked up from TV news stories or an occasional magazine article.
Faced with this unexpected and frightening threat, my husband was told to “take the medicine prescribed and come back in one year.” Stunned and at a loss where to turn or who to go for information or advice, we both thought the same thing, “NOW WHAT”?
I soon discovered that we weren’t the only ones. Each day, ordinary people just like us were facing futures suddenly, frighteningly different from any they had imagined, without a clue as to what they needed to do next. Since that day, it has been my personal mission to learn as much as I can about this complex disease and to find ways to help my husband and other PD sufferers get the best healthcare outcomes possible and live life to the fullest.
WHAT DO THEY SAY
"When I started with Parkinson’s Disease a few years ago, I went searching for someone to consult with me to help me in every facet of the disease from solid advice to emotional support. I was so blessed to find Katherine who has been putting her heart and mind into the whole spectrum that Parkinson’s Disease is for more than 20 years.
Always smiling, researching, and connecting, Katherine told me to always tell her the full truth and she would do the same for me, and it turned into a very effective and great relationship. It was so nice to miss so many Parkinson’s false starts on roads that she had already been down.
Open minded and yet very accurate in her research, I was able to learn about a variety of things I could do to improve my life with Parkinson’s, including finding community, exercise, voice exercises, preparation for surprises, medication tracking, promising new research, Parkinson’s norms, neurologist communication, legal medical preparation, personal experiences, and much much more!
Learning all of this information through a real person verses solely the internet was definitely the right choice and reduced my and my family’s stress heaps.
Genuinely kind, driven, happy, and realistic, Katherine is someone I would like to have as a neighbor. She has adapted to her husband’s Parkinson’s journey for the best parts of her life and helped turn the dirt into flowers! Over my first year or two with the disease and consulting with Katherine, I am doing many times better in all facets of my journey and I couldn’t recommend Katherine more to have on my Parkinson’s team. There are not a lot of Parkinson’s consultants out there, so I’m not sure who could replace her. So in that sense, I feel lucky to have found her."
